Money

There's more to hate about it than like, don't you think?

I hate having to ask for it.

I don't really care about not having it.

I don't understand why some people love it more than anything else.

At the moment, I feel I'm poised in quite a precarious situation, like the position the Karate Kid held just at the end when he was about to make his amazing kick. Up on tip toes, on one leg, hands doing something fairly elaborate. Yet I'm sleeping at night and I'm not depressed or worried or anxious.

Requests to the universe (you never know, it might help):

1. please, no more heavy downpours until we get the roof fixed in St Kilda

2. please, assist Ali with his business in the UK so he can send me $$$ for what needs to be paid for here

3. please, let just the perfect amount of schools in Melbourne think the new business is one they absolutely have to work with

That's it, not very much is it?

I can't say I know too much about money or money problems. I've always hated the idea of owing, so I've spent my whole life saving up for things rather than using loans or credit. I don't have much to show for it. It's a really outdated way of thinking, I guess.

In any event, I wish you the best and hope it all works out for you. Doubly so if your school related business is to do with sexual health and awareness. I think kids need that quite badly.

Hey Alex, I've never minded being in debt which is probably why I can sleep alright at night. I know a lot of people who have only paid cash for things, and if they didn't have the cash, wouldn't buy it. My ex husband was/is like this. I don't think it's outdated, I think it's sensible but just not very modern because these days everyone is happy to live on credit it seems. People don't seem to understand (including myself) what the consequences can be and how easily you can get into trouble. I've maxed out a $10K limit credit card twice. You'd think after the first time I would have clicked, but no.

Yes, the business is to do with sexuality and relationships education. It's a great area to work in: fun and worthy.

I know people with home loans that they will never pay off. They just pay the interest and hope the property value doesn't drop. On top of that, they buy everything on credit and just roll it into the home loan. I could not live that way. I would never sleep at all.

I'm all for volunteering, but I reckon it must be fantastic to actually work in a field where you really feel like you're making a change for the better. I hope you don't cop too much grief from up-tight parents and religious groups.

Didn't cop much grief at all at the other place Alex so don't expect to with new organisation, but of course it will happen sometimes. We will have prof indemnity though, just in case someone gets sue'y, though for what I can't really imagine. Any ideas? What would a parent or school be litigious about? We won't be giving unplanned pregnancy advice (just options) and we won't be advocating sex just 'healthy, happy, mutually pleasurable, consensual sex if sex happens) those sorts of things.

Ultimately sex education is compulsory in Victorian government schools from Prep - 10 or maybe even 12, it's in the learning standards produced by the Ed Dept.

But we will have a protocol for handling complaints cause I'm sure they'll happen.

I was not fully aware of this but am glad to hear it (shame it's only government schools, though). It means the purity crusaders can't have you run out of town without a change of legislation. I guess they can have their kids withheld from classes, which is a bit of a shame, for the kids.

In the end, I have no doubt that there are people who draw the conclusion that exposing young'uns to any kind of reproductive information encourages them to do it and any under-age sex that happens is as a result of the filthy perverts pushing sex-ed into schools instead of preaching abstinence. I think they're probably the ones you have to watch out for.
