I want this bathroom

Or maybe I should be more polite and say I would like...

It would go nicely in my rambling country house that I plan to buy in about ten years. That's pretty much when city-duty will be over (?) ie kids will have finished school and left home or finished university.

I told Clokes last night his two old hard drives will not be allowed in the house, he can have the garage because of course I will have my writing shed, separate to the house.

Isn't the colour beautiful?

PS I found this via Sublimation's facebook page.

Oh, so the writer's hut is just part of a wider retirement dream?

Also, Clokes' hard drives have to go in the garage? Most modern hard drives are about the size of a paperback book. Has he got some old giant ones or do you mean he has a couple of racks?

I know this isn't what your post is about, but this interests me greatly.

Well Alex let me tell you about Clokes's hard drives. There are two old ones, then my old Mac (from the late '90s). They are big ones, what do you call them? CPUs? That go with desktops. Then there's old laptops.

Yes the writer's hut will be on a country property, with a rambling, charming house and maybe some chooks and fruit trees. I am desperate for these things but the kids need to be in the city for schooling etc. I am aware it might take a while for them to finally fly our nest but a move out of the city will certainly help that process? If we find they are dragging their feet. Princess has told me: No offence, but I'm out of here as soon as I can. I figure our older daughter will be as well. It's the boy that I think will take longer...

Oh, I see, you mean whole computers (minus peripherals). I get it.

I like the sound of your dream. Makes me a little nostalgic. Have you lived in the country before? In case you weren't aware, chooks tend to attract vermin, so you might want some cats or little dogs, too; not that that's a bad thing. Maybe a few cows to keep the grass down?

And yes, I would imagine it's probably a good strategy for nudging older offspring out on their own. Some people never completely move out if their parents' place is too convenient. Actually, since you mostly only talk about Princess, I kind of assumed the others had already flown the nest. Obviously not the case.

Also, just looking at that photo:

1) Showering in a bathtub tends to get more difficult and dangerous as you get older. Might want to chuck some rubber grips in the bottom of the tub at least.

2) I imagine the pictures hanging in the shower area would eventually get mouldy and rooted.

3) What's that little arched mirror supposed to be for?

4) Bare floorboards are going to make that room freezing in the winter. Especially the Victorian winter.

Colour is okay though.

You are a killjoy Alex! I didn't say it was a *practical* bathroom I just like its fun.

I talk about Princess much more because she is of my body. The other two are steps so it's not the same. I thought you knew I was a wicked stepmother?? In my mind I have one child really, and live with two others. It's weird and hard but there it is.

I want to a couple of little dogs maybe but then do I have to walk them? Cats kills the local birds, they would be easier but can go feral. Hmmm Alex, too many difficult things to think of here.

I would like some sheep to keep the grass down but then do they get eaten by something? I am wanting to move to Macedon area, I know there is at least one giant black puma out there.

Sorry about that. But I've lived in places that had bathrooms like that one and I thought I'd give you a head's up in case you hadn't.

I would get dogs for the reasons you mentioned, but I know some people are die-hard cat fanciers. The beauty of having a bit of space is that the dogs will chase each other around and exercise themselves. You've still got to spend some time disciplining them when they're young, though.

Sheep are good, and apart from feral dogs, not much attacks them once they're full grown. You'll probably want hairy rather than woolly, as I doubt you'll want to shear them. I have an uncle that swears by dorpers. I'd stay away from goats though. They will eat your fruit trees.

I can almost imagine your future place now.

And I knew you had some form of mixed family, just wasn't sure about the specifics. I suppose it can be tricky because everyone feels differently about these things. I can think of one rellie who severed ties with his biological parents because they refused to recognise his stepchild as their grandchild. Having no children of any kind myself, it's not a perspective I can relate to. I've sometimes worried that one of my cousins might go off the rails and I'll be asked to look after their kids (happens every so often in my mob) but so far, it hasn't come up. Luckily.

I'll come back to comment on this Alex, but for now I have something special to share in a new post.

Tis a rather pretty colour and pretty bathroom. Makes quite the retirement fantasy.
