I play piano: I can test drive one for you.
Don't know where you get a good one though...

I need to get a new one as well. My Austrian piano tuner keeps telling me mine 'iz tu honky tonk'.

I don't know much about getting a second-hand one but a friend of mine used to rent one...

Maybe ask the music departments at your local schools? Or possibly ring the conservatorium to see what they do with their old ones or if they have any recommendations or tips?

the teacher told me that renting is about $90 a month and buying a reasonable second-hand one is about $2500. i think i'd rather buy one and then princess has one for the next 50 years or something. and can take it with her. or leave with her understanding mother in the garage.

Princess would leave, with you in the garage? What is she going to do? Tie you up in bubble wrap and lean you against the boxes of Christmas decorations?

How you could be understanding about this is beyond me!

PS - Why is this post even featured here? Shouldn't it be in your new 'Tips' blog?

bevis you're right could be in the tips blog. in fact it should be. i made a bad call.

and you are so funny. lean me up against the christmas tree. it might happen one day, you never know. they way the young are these days.

and cottony. hi. nice piano joke. it was a little off-key, try this one:

what do you get when you drop a piano on an army bus?

a flat major.

My sister-in-law just bought a piano from the trading post. She had a fair idea what she wanted and noticed a couple of pianos listed in there that just kept appearing week after week with a lower price. In the end she did pay around $1800 (I think) but ended up with a fantastic piano that she felt was worth around $5000.

Pfft! The young.

*rolls eyes*

*picks them up again and puts them back in*

Somebody punch me if I ever have kids.

Anyway, don't be so hard on yourself. You can post anything wherever you like. I just thought I'd let you know I was taking notice, that's all.

Consider this your first warning. (Or don't -- it's totally up to you.)

I would suggest the Trading Post also. I've not checked but there may even be some on eBay? You could always post a "Wanted" advertisement as well. Piano teachers may have contacts, as well as piano tuners. There is a place near me that sells second-hand in addition to new so even the stores may sell them. Allans in the city may also have some good tips or Camberwell Music Junction.
