how are you with scary movies?

last night we watched this:

i don't quite know what possessed me. i am pathetic when it comes to horrors etc. i have seen many. from cutting my adult molars on "disaster movies" like earthquake, the poisidon adventure, killer bees, towering inferno, the devil's triangle, death ship, then moving onto friday the 13th, nightmare on elm street, when a stranger calls, texas chainsaw massacre. then i think i started resisting the teenage thing to see scary movies because they were too scary. once i got over that peer group pressure thing, i just stopped. it was easy.

then a few years ago i watched blair witch project and scared myself shitless. couldn't watch it with the sound on. the sixth sense almost killed me. a couple of years ago i tried to watch the ring and couldn't get through the FIRST MINUTE with the sound on. had to then watch the entire thing in fast forward, scene by scene, then rewind and watch again.

so why did i want to watch wolf creek? i really don't know. today i've been having flashbacks. it was disturbing and so creepy.

who's seen it? what did you think? am i a wimp?

Yeah, you're a wimp, but there is NO WAY IN HELL I am going on a road trip through Central Australia after seeing that movie.

I haven't seen Wolf Creek but I think 'Nightmare on Elm St' was the SCARIEST thing I'd seen - jus that last scene where he gets pulled back through the door hole thing?! FREAKS ME OUT.

Oh - and even tho I haven't seen any of the movie, the images of the girl from The Ring in Scary Movie 3 ALSO made me v uncomfortable for comedy...!

I can handle most horror movies, but Wolf Creek totally creeped me out too ... I think I enjoyed it, but I was just so queasy by the end that I'm still not sure

The only thing that got me through Nightmare on Elm Street was Johnny Depp but he got killed too early... I've not been able to watch a horror movie since.

I will not watch a horror movie, ever. I'm the world's biggest woos.

I liked it. I didn't get all that freaked out about it.
Only in one spot did I have to turn away, when Ben was removing his arm from the nails.

I found it more gross than scary. I don't like films that glorify serial killers in anyway, so thought it was a stupid movie.

javatari, that's a good point. i can never decide if these movies are a glorification. they scare the shit out of me, and certainly do not give me the message it's a good thing to be a serial killer/psycho etc. but i wonder why we have the urge, some of us, to watch these things? is it the car crash syndrome? the schadenfreude by proxy idea? ie that we take pleasure in other people's misery, if only in the sense that we are glad it's not happening to us? or somehow do these movies make us feel glad to be alive and therefore live in the moment more, realise how lucky we are?

i just don't know. all i know is i am hopeless at watching them, i feel like it's so real, my chemical systems react as if it's real, i get no pleasure whatsoever from them.

comedies are better.

My gf and I loved Wolf Creek. Surprisingly good performances... I mean who'd have thought John Jarrat was capable of convincing acting?

The only problem I had with it was the relatively easy ending and the fact that two seconds after I left the cinema I was over it... no flashbacks here, sadly... I usually enjoy them :)

Now, for a film that won't let you off the hook for days, I recommend Se7en, the Pitt/Freeman outing. The credits even roll backwards at the end, to leave you with that little "something's not right, but I can't place it" feeling.

Truly creepy little number :)
